Headwear At Alternative Hair Solutions

Over the years, working closely with clients going through Chemotherapy treatment and coping with Alopecia, helping them choose their wig has been both emotional and heart warming.

When I greet my client for the first time and take them into my consultation room where we talk about how their life has changed in such a short time, their world turned upside down in just one day, with many saying I never though when I left work that day to go to the doctors surgery that I would not be back at work for some time

When that room door is opened I try not to put a time on it as no two journeys are the same, some will be coping others may not. I try to get a feel for their lifestyle, have they young children, or grand children who need to see Mummy or Granny look like Mummy or Granny at least for the first few weeks or months until their own coping skills kick in, or are they coping or not coping, do they need to see themselves when they look in the mirror?

I personally feel there are no rules at this point, I will be led by what they tell me, and we will work our way through the wig choice process with them, starting with what they feel they would like to try on, from our vast array of up to date styles we have on display, after which they may take advice from their husband, daughter, grand daughter, sister or sisters, whoever the client decided to bring with them that day.

This process starts with tears of sadness but many times ends up with tears of laughter. I’ve watched sisters say ‘‘Oh My God you are the double of me ‘‘ or ‘‘Oh My God you are the spit of your auntie Kate’’ or maybe an Aunt that was strict with them when they were growing up, at that point the hair is taken off and thrown back on the dressing table and the room has now erupted with laughter.

Many of my clients who are used to having long hair say to me “I know they say you should go for a short hairstyle but I love my long hair and want to keep it” at this point I know where to find that long fabulous hair that the client craves for. I have a few suppliers I can call on, each one a specialist in their own field and each with different price points to suit all of my clients needs and budgets.

On the other hand there are the clients that just can’t wear a wig, they find that it just isn’t for them, which is why I write this piece to let you all know that there are other solutions. The fabulous range of headwear, pictured below, is perfect for hospital appointments, as well as perfect for anyone with fine hair, or for when their chemotherapy treatment finishes and the consultant has given the go ahead to go on holidays to the sun, the headwear is both fashionable and stylish for wearing while lying by the pool, or checking out the sites while also providing perfect protection for the scalp from the sun.
